Guwahati Faces Travel Chaos as Cold Wave and Fog Disrupt Air Traffic

Guwahati, Assam, is currently experiencing significant disruptions to air travel due to a combination of dense fog and a persistent cold wave. The challenging weather conditions have led to the delay and cancellation of flights at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, impacting travel plans for numerous passengers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about the prevailing weather patterns, forecasting continued dense fog and a drop in temperatures across the region. These conditions have significantly reduced visibility, making it difficult for aircraft to land and take off safely.

As of 30 Dec, seven flights have been impacted at Guwahati's airport. These disruptions have caused considerable inconvenience to travelers, with many facing long delays and the need to reschedule their journeys. Airport authorities are working to manage the situation and provide assistance to affected passengers, but the unpredictable nature of the weather makes it difficult to provide precise timelines for the resumption of normal flight operations.

Beyond air travel, the cold wave and dense fog are also impacting daily life in Guwahati. Visibility is significantly reduced on roads, making driving hazardous. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, use fog lights, and maintain a safe following distance. The cold temperatures are also affecting vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those without adequate shelter. Local authorities and charitable organizations are urged to provide assistance and support to those in need.

The current weather situation underscores the importance of staying informed about weather forecasts and advisories. Residents of Guwahati and travelers passing through the city should monitor the IMD's updates and heed the advice of local authorities to minimize the impact of the cold wave and dense fog. With the IMD predicting that these weather conditions will persist in the coming days, continued disruptions to travel and daily life are possible. Citizens should prepare and take precautions to ensure personal safety and well-being.
